• I have been down to Kenosha a few times in recent weeks. The lighthouse was purchased in 2011 and is privately owned. Living on the harbor was always beautiful–days like these were especially so. People forget that the weather around here is often spectaular in September and October–warm sun and cool breezes. (Kenosha, Wisconsin, 2012)

  • I took a ton of shots of the Nā Pali Coast coast that day. Each one was lovely and full of the rich colors. This one was the odd one in the group and became my favorite and hung on my office wall for years. For some reason all the colors muted out of the image and the light and the clouds played nicely with each other. (Nā Pali Coast, Hawaii, 2008)

  • It was a late December ice storm that coated every surface and in this case, every blade of grass. (Lansing, Michigan, 1984)

  • My Great Aunt Agnes was born and passed away on this farm. She was probably in her early 80s when this was taken. She taught me a lot about strength. She did have a dryer–not sure why wasn’t using it. I didn’t take this photo, but I found it in my mother’s things. She might have taken it. (Ann Arbor, MI 1970s)

  • One of my favorite bridge walk is the one over the East River across the Brooklyn Bridge. It opened in 1883 and goes from Brooklyn to lower Manhattan. I marvel at the the bridge towers and the suspension of the auto and pedestrian decks. (New York, New York, 2000)

  • Castillo San Felipe del Morro was commissioned by Charles I in 1539 it has stood over San Juan Harbor ever since. It has seen plenty of battles with the English and Dutch. The US shelled the structure in 1898. During World War II new concrete artillery observation posts (seen above) and an underground bunker were added. Today it recieves nearly 2 million annual visitors and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (San Juan, Puerto Rico, 2010)

  • I had read about this view of Dubrovnik during the war and siege of the city in the early 1990s. When walking through the city, many of the bombing spots had been memorialized. The Old City is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the most beautiful places I remember. (Dubrovnik, Croatia, 2012)

  • A warm spring day in April is something to be treasured. The Castle has seen over 1000 springs and people have occupied this high spot in Scotland since the late Bronze Age/early Iron Age. (Edinburgh, Scotland, 2015)

  • I was traveling with a group of college administrators and we spent a night with a family on a coffee plantation. I was trying to help with breakfast, but I think these women thought that I was more trouble than help. (Matagalpa, Nicaragua, 2007)

  • I had one of those jobs that were routinely 10-14 hours per day. I was often in early to jet a jump on things before others arrived. The job came with this fabulous view of Lake Michigan which was even better at sunrise. (Kenosha, Wisconsin, 2011)
