• This was my first real view of India during the day. Our hotel (Hotel Welcome Palace) was near the train station and in the heart of the construction suppliers. (New Delhi, India 2009)

  • I had a series of offices with terrific views–aside from the view it was quiet and comfortable. I got a lot of work done here. (Kenosha, WI, 2018)

  • I had the opportunity to travel to Qatar and present at a conference panel with my friend Maher (far right). To be honest I was sitting there pretty amazed by the country and the conference. I have no memory of saying anything coherent. (Doha, Qatar, 2016)

  • I was home one summer staying at the family farm. The wheat was perfect that day. Even though I took it with a 110 camera, it is one of my favorite shots. (Ann Arbor, Michigan, 1984)

  • A colleague shot this photo of me (white hat) walking down the mountain of a coffee collective in Nicaragua. I often think of this place and how coffee is grown when I am in my local coffee shop. (Matagalpa, Nicaragua, 2007)

  • Kathleen and I took a spring break trip to the Netherlands. After that I was sold on cool weather spring break trips. (Amsterdam, 2019)

  • I was actually on a vacation with friends and I was taking a call. My friend shot this and it reminded me that I was supposed to be relaxing. (Sedona, Arizona 2005)

  • I got invited by a colleague on a trip to measure snowfall in the Arizona mountains. On the way home, we flew over Sedona near sunset. (Sedona, Arizona 2005)

  • A quiet autumn walk through Petrifying Springs Park. (Kenosha, 2012)

  • When I was doing work with “water, urban development, and the West,” I wanted to visit the San Francisquito Dam which failed catastrophically in 1928. My colleague and I had each picked up a stray piece of concrete as a souvenir. Before we left we felt like we should just leave it behind with the ghosts of the dam. (Los Angeles County, 2003)
