• My first trip to Nicaragua was in 2003. Granada was a city that was being refurbished and renewed for tourists. The cathedral are the spires in the background had not been repainted with their distinctive yellow with melon-colored domes. (Granada, Nicaragua 2003)

  • I was up early shooting the sunrise. I was just starting grad school and we were at an orientation program that seemed to never end. (Camp Perry, Ohio, 1986)

  • I recommend hiking along the rim of the Grand Canyon. It lacks some of the sizzle of the descent and climb back out–but very worth it. Ironically I fell sick from food poisoning after this hike and had to be transported by ambulance to Flagstaff. (Grand Canyon, Arizona 2002)

  • I have been known to tease my friends from Chicago (about a lot of things including the Bears, Cubs, and Sox). However if you know the city and see it laid out before you like this–you just smile. (Chicago, IL 2018)

  • This does beat the “It has been ______________ days since our last accident. (Tempe, Arizona, 2005)

  • When we travel, we leave others behind. When we come home, there is sometimes judgement. (Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin 2016)

  • Sometimes a great architect can make you “feel” a space. I spent at least an hour walking around this patio and fountains designed by I.M. Pei. The sun going down helped the experience as well (Doha, Qatar, 2016)

  • This is one of my favorite sunset shots, but it was just a quick shot without much planning or foresight–right place, right time. It was a “throwaway shot” that turned out well. (Honolulu, Hawaii, 2008)

  • This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Kenosha. Every time I’ve been there, food is good, but the “feel” of the place is 1960s. The bar overlooks Lake Michigan. The only thing it is lacking is people smoking–that would make it complete. (Kenosha, 2016)

  • I finally got my chance to walk across the Mackinac Bridge. It was a lovely day to walk across the longest suspension bridge in the Western Hemisphere. Great views, but don’t walk on the grate. (St. Ignace, Michigan 2014)
