Traveling to famous spots means crowds–but you can evade them a bit. Like most July days, Venice was overwhelmed with people. We wandered over a few bridges, and found a much quieter street with available seats for fine dining. It was a lovely and relaxing evening in our part of town. (Venice, Italy, 2011)

I love old train stations. Often they were built during a time “before accountants ruled the world.” One of my very favorites is Union Station in Los Angeles. The tile, the woodwork, the painting. You begin to understand that travel was elegant. This is the outdoor waiting area. A beautiful patio with a fountain. Other…

Although it is a “retired lighthouse” it remains a centerpiece in Honolulu Harbor at Pier 9. I have some daytime photos, but I like this one better. (Honolulu, Hawaii, 2008)

Granada is one of the oldest cities in the Americas and was established over 500 years ago. The Cathedral is one of the centerpieces of the city. This was before the interior was repainted yellow. (Granada, Nicaragua 2004)

Faro del Castillo San Felipe del Morro is the lighthouse at the entrance to San Juan Harbor. It was rebuilt in 1908 and is one of the most prominent sites at El Morro. (San Juan Antiguo, Puerto Rico, 2003)

My first trip to Nicaragua was in 2003. Granada was a city that was being refurbished and renewed for tourists. The cathedral are the spires in the background had not been repainted with their distinctive yellow with melon-colored domes. (Granada, Nicaragua 2003)

I have been known to tease my friends from Chicago (about a lot of things including the Bears, Cubs, and Sox). However if you know the city and see it laid out before you like this–you just smile. (Chicago, IL 2018)
