  • What Does 1964 Look Like?

Kathleen’s dad shot this during the 1964 World’s Fair. We found it in a box of old slides. We have it hanging on the wall in the house. What we love is how the people are dressed and are interacting in the photo. (New York, New York 1964)

  • My Best Traveling Companion

I’ve traveled with a lot of people over the years. None match traveling with Kathleen. A friend captured us wandering up the hill. (Sedona, Arizona 2005)

  • My Favorite Homework Assignment

I was taking a photography class my senior year of college. Kathleen and I were out on a cold February day. I spent a lot of time working this print in the darkroom. I got an A on the project–probably because Kathleen makes my photos (and my life great). Happy Birthday Kathleen! (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1985)

  • It was Cheating, but Still Good

I’ve climbed a short distance up a glacier and it is no small task. The helicopter ride might have been an easy way to get here, but well worth the trip and the view. (Mendenhall Glacier, 2012)

  • Where is the Crummy Hotel?

  • Ten Years Later

Changes in the urban landscape are often subtle–but look for them. The street is more defined as the city has worked to control and slow traffic. There is also a stand of rented bikes as the transportation culture changes. There are more taxi cabs than the 2009 photo (I have no explanation for that). (New…

  • It was a Chelsea Morning

This was a “throwaway shot” that hung on my office wall for years. I was on the High Line in New York shortly after it opened. I was just shooting randomly from the elevated park. (New York, New York, 2009)

  • High Time for a Great Idea

We were in New York for a wedding and the High Line had just opened. We enjoy walking in the City–but this was different an allowed more interesting views and opportunities for people watching. The old rail line makes a great park. (New York, New York, 2009)
