• When I visited the Trinity Site I found out that I could also visit the nearby Very Large Array. It was a moment to geek out like I did at Arecibo. Well worth the trip out into the desert. (Socorro County, New Mexico, 2005)

  • My visit to the Trinity Nuclear Site was a unique day and hard to schedule in.. Since it is an active missile range, you can only visit the site the first Saturday in April and October. I was determined to get there and waited in a line of cars at 7 am, I recommend the visit. (White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, 2005)

  • I was in Socorro to visit the Trinity Test Site. I needed a good and early breakfast and this place had all the earmarks of a great place to eat–including the local law enforcement catching their breakfast. I still remember the huevos racheros con salsa verde, (Socorro, New Mexico, 2005)

  • I’ve had more time the past few years for this activity. I’m always on the hunt for small and fun places that are less traveled. However, seeing the well-traveled big stuff is fun as well. It’s important to do both. (New York, New York, 2019)

  • I was doing a lot of field work in the western suburbs of Phoenix. I came across a number of good signs and interesting spots. This sign was one of my favorites. (Goodyear, Arizona, 2005)

  • When I walked in the lobby, I knew that I would book a room. It felt like a living room with tourist flyers. The restaurant is still open and I remember eating well. The rooms were modest–but felt this comfortable. (Boulder City, Nevada, 2005)

  • I was on a road trip and swung into Boulder City for a quick bite to eat. I was going to find a room in a nearby big city. This place was so cute I decided to book my night here at the Boulder Dam Hotel. At one time, it hosted the elite of society. Now it is a well-kept inn along a peaceful street away from all the tourist noise in the area. I always stay here when I’m in the area. Take a peek inside tomorrow. (Boulder City, Nevada, 2005)

  • I stopped to have dinner by Parker Dam just after those other shots. One of the things I learned when I lived in Arizona is that the name for a covered space that you might put a picnic table is a “ramada.” (Parker Dam, California, 2004)

  • Yesterday I mentioned why I liked Parker Dam. The lake side of a dam always has the romance of “potential energy” as it sits and waits to go downstream. (Parker Dam, California, 2005)

  • For some reason, I love the Parker Dam. It is small, has an elegant curve, and seems to be an afterthought of Hoover Dam upriver. Tomorrow, let’s look at the other side. (Parker Dam, California, 2005)
