I got invited by a colleague on a trip to measure snowfall in the Arizona mountains. On the way home, we flew over Sedona near sunset. (Sedona, Arizona 2005)

A quiet autumn walk through Petrifying Springs Park. (Kenosha, 2012)

When I was doing work with “water, urban development, and the West,” I wanted to visit the San Francisquito Dam which failed catastrophically in 1928. The had turned gorgeous and I wound up walking way more than I had planned. I was exhausted and about another hour walk away from my hotel. (London, 2023)

I walked into class one day and as I was setting up for lecture I looked up and saw that the trees had exploded in color (Carthage College, 2018)

I was on a ship in the Hawaiian Islands waiting to get a good sunset shot (none were actually good). However this throw away shot turned out to be one of my favorites (Hawaii, 2008)

I found this sculpture of Sandino to be powerful because it lacked physical detail as it overlooked the city. (Managua, Nicaragua, 2007)

Whenever I see seals on the shore (or on the docks) I am amazed at their lack of need for personal space (San Francisco, 2003)
