• Wandering a city leads to nice surprises. Although this spot is on the tourist maps, we found it by our usual method of wandering about. Somehow it is more satisfying to stumble upon things. (Edinburgh, Scotland 2018)

  • It was the end of the “old ferry” system across the lake and before the revival of the Badger and Lake Express. That summer the Badger was running between Ludington and Milwaukee. My friend and I were working in Northern Michigan and we had to get back to school in Milwaukee. Shortest distance between 2 points (and the cheapest) was across Lake Michigan. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1981)

  • When I go back to places I like to do some re-photography. In this case my spring 2015 trip photo is re-imaged in the summer. Still a stunning place with so much human history. (Edinburgh, Scotland, 2018)

  • I was back in Columbus for a conference and I had to sneak into the classroom I took statistics in. It was memorable for a number of reasons (the instructor was a doppelgänger for Jim from the show Taxi), but I remember that because the classroom was oval I could hear my classmates whispering across the room and sometimes the instructor’s voice sounded like he was behind me. (Columbus, Ohio, 2019)

  • We have lived a lot of places–this one fits in the middle somewhere. We had a lot of snow that year. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen that much snow at home. (Whitefish Bay, 1999)

  • In case you were wondering where we went after yesterday’s post. Baker hall is one of those interesting buildings that is almost impossible to get a shot of the whole building because of the landscape and surrounding buildings. This is about the best I could do. (Columbus, Ohio, 2019)

  • It’s not rousing architecture, it’s not a lot of things. It is however my first married home. We also moved from this residence hall at Marquette to one at Ohio State. I’ve lived in nicer places, but this has fond memories. (Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 1999)

  • I was on my “dam tour” during my Arizona sabbatical and made a stop at the Parker Dam. You were allowed to drive over this dam, but not walk. Ironically I also visited the Davis Dam that day. I was allowed to walk across the Davis Dam (just a little north) but not drive across it. (Parker Dam, California, 2005)

  • When you are young you do wonderful, yet silly things. Why we thought owning two hound dogs was a good idea, I will not know–and yet we did. Betty the Beagle, and Rob the Hound Dog, were quite the pair. (Whitefish Bay, 2002)

  • Until somebody winds up in the conehead. I can’t remember which ailment Bella was in confinement about. (Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, 2010)
